Common questions
ShipScience is designed to sit alongside your existing shipping systems. There are no software changes, operational changes, or changes to your shipping carriers needed. We just connect to your UPS & FedEx accounts and the rest is done from your ShipScience portal. Learn more .
First, you'll connect your shipping accounts. This process generally only takes a couple of minutes for most shippers. From there, we'll sync your data and start analyzing potential claims and refund opportunities immediately. Generally, you'll be able to see your data and claims progress within 24 hours or less from the time you connect your shipping accounts.
Our Essentials plan is free forever. For customers interested in maximizing savings and optimizing shipping efficiency, we also offer a Premium plan. In addition to the features of Essentials, Premium includes claims and custom reporting automation, agreement negotiations & scenario modeling, decision support & expert consultation, and GL coding & shipping invoice payment. Premium plans are custom-priced based on shipping volume and backed by a 1x to 3x Savings Guarantee. Learn more .
With your free account, you can visualize all your shipping data over an unlimited number of accounts. In addition, you can monitor up to 1,000 shipments per month, automating invoice auditing & claims. All accounts include our AI-backed shipping account monitoring for issues and operational improvements.
For Essentials accounts, ShipScientists are available for chat support during business hours.
For Premium accounts, you are assigned a dedicated account manager who is available to help with any questions or concerns. You are also welcome to use the chat feature in the portal.
There are 3 types of claims supported by ShipScience. Each work differently:
- SLA violation claims (also known as Moneyback Guarantees or Guaranteed Service Refunds) are fully automated - no action is needed.
- Lost/damaged shipment claims (customer reported). You can claim your lost/damaged shipments through ShipScience when your customer reports them. Simply navigate to the shipment detail and click “Submit Claim”. Our one-page, quick claim will save claims agents hours per day and improve claim results with our post-submission formatting process.
- Lost shipment claims (carrier reported). About .15-.25% of all shipments never get a delivery scan and can be claimed automatically with the carriers. To do so, you'll need to provide information about the contents and value of the items shipped. We can either work with a data feed or use a blanket description and value if the items you ship are all the same.
In most cases, it takes less than 2 minutes to connect your accounts. If you've never accessed UPS or FedEx online billing before, our support team is here to help. In those cases, we may need up to 30 minutes of your time to track down the appropriate account manager to enable online billing.
For most accounts, data is available within 3-4 hours of connecting your carrier accounts. If you have a high-volume account, it may take up to 24 hours for data to appear.

Your savings are calculated automatically and reported in the ShipScience portal. There are a few different ways we calculate savings, depending on the feature:
- The total value of eligible spend before and after ShipScience becomes involved.
- The improvement in contractual discounts and terms before and after ShipScience becomes involved.
- The presence of refunds and credits directly related to ShipScience services on your UPS and FedEx invoices
